In exploring the world around me, I try to capture the beauty of contrasting colors and textures in nature. Painting for me is an expression of my emotions. The application of the paint to the canvas is a spiritual experience for me. As I apply the paint to the canvas, I create a textured abstraction of landscapes and botanicals by mixing oil paints with a cold wax medium. To achieve interesting textures, I build up layers of color and scrape with tools to reveal hidden blends of dynamic hues. I am influenced by the work of the German expressionist artist Gerhardt Richter.
